I want to do something similar to J. Calhoun's design, but smaller and all in frosted white (transparent) acrylic. However I've never done anything like that before (CAD and general advanced crafts), so it's just been sitting around in my head for a couple years...

If I recall correctly, the sounds emitted by the Apple recorder are simple enough that they can be compressed to a great level, and still work.

I was planning to use my minidisc player, but whatever you use should work, and would probably have less problems than a tape deck (ie. no degradation).

Yeah, this isn't something I can do until I get a serial interface for my Replica. But I'm not sure if it is a host serial, or client serial. Or is there no such thing - serial is serial?

BBS/telnet/remote data link?

I was wondering if it was possible to get a telnet connection or something along those lines with my pc, which I could then forward over telnet to a BBS or something along those lines. I know the apple II's used to do this kind of thing, and I think the replica should be capable... EDIT: I see this ...

Well, 9v batteries are just a bunch of small 1.5v cells inside....I think the capacity is around 300mAh. So just calculate the draw of the Replica, and you should get a rough answer.

Mr. Briel, you would not believe how many problems of mine you just solved by posting that link. I've been looking for a reliable, low-cost serial transmitter to control a RC helicopter with for weeks - and everything was either too slow, or too expensive (real ripoffs...hundreds of dollars). Hah, I...

He already did Revision A, B, and C - that is the point I was making.

Come on Vince, I bet that you can come up with an appropriate name. :P

You could make it a joke and have it be the Replica 1.5... ;) Revision? You have already done revisions, this should probably be under a completely different name. However, the Replica 2 would not be appropriate, for obvious reasons. I honestly don't see anything terrible about Replica SE. It does t...

The voltage regulator would still get warm, but could you put the switch after the power output from it instead?

Hah, the capacitor statement just completely blew by my head. I think I need to learn some first.

Sounds great, I will search for a 7805. Chances are, I might have one available to me for free. What is the deal with http://www.7805.org? I was hoping it was a resource like http://www.6502.org, but it looks like a blog or something. Could someone post a link of where I can learn how to use the 7805?

Ah, very good then. The ironic part about all this is that now I am stuck with the old 6502, because I accidentally left my 65c02 out and it was stolen yesterday. :P

Works out for my retro side, doesn't it? :D

I meant the difference between pure 6502's now, and mine from the late 70's. 65c02? That's reserved for the IIc. ;)
