Re: Micro-KIM EPROM expansion?

Hi Jac, Maybe I'll take you up on that offer, but not until I know for sure that that's what's wrong. ok, just let me know if/when you need it. Anyway, I made some progress on this last weekend: I connected a Propeller QuickStart board to my MicroKim's expansion port, removed the EPROM and disabled ...

Re: Micro-KIM EPROM expansion?

Hi Jac, thanks for the update. What I saw was that at the time when the clock was going low, sometimes the EPROM wasn't putting the correct data byte on the databus. So it looks like my EPROM got partially erased (I never bothered to cover up the window though I know I should) or is malfunctioning. ...

Re: Micro-KIM EPROM expansion?

Hi Cappy2112, Yes- please post a link. I'm still confused. If you have Tiny BASIC, why go to the trouble of porting the C64 BASIC to the MicroKIM? I don't have the link anymore. I found it somewhere on the net after doing a pretty extensive search. Send me your email address as a PM and I will send ...

Re: Micro-KIM EPROM expansion?

Hi Cappy 2112, Am I mistaken, but isn't there already basic for the KIM1? It seems like I've read something about this somewhere.... yes, there is. There's both TinyBASIC and Microsoft BASIC. Here is a reference to TinyBASIC running on the KIM1, but not the actual code :( https://www.princeton.edu/~...

Re: Micro-KIM EPROM expansion?

Hi Cappy 2112, BTW- is there a monitor in the Microkim? depends on what you call a "monitor". If you refer to a real ML monitor that accepts mnemonics and also decodes memory contents to mnemonic code, then no, there's none. If you refer to the possibility to view and edit raw hex data, th...

Re: Micro-KIM EPROM expansion?

Hi Jac, It would be even better to have an EEPROM such as the 28C256 (32KB, less than $8) so you don't need an EPROM burner or UV eraser; the 6502 on the MicroKim will be able to write data to it as if it's a RAM chip. If the hardware design is done in a smart way, it will be possible for the 6502 t...

Re: Micro-KIM EPROM expansion?

Hi Cappy2112, sorry for the late answer. I'm not exactly here often. :-) There's nothing special about Commodore BASIC. My idea was just to remove cassette routines and routines that deal with the Commodore serial I/O, the SID, VIC, etc., thus making the ROM smaller. But I'd leave (and modify) the s...

Using IRQ or NMI?

Hi, is there a way to set up one of the two 6530s timers to trigger an IRQ or NMI (doesn't matter which) and by that enter a routine through the IRQ or NMI vectors respectively? I'd need something like set up the timer to wait for a configurable number of CPU cycles and, after the time has expired, ...

Re: KIM-1 programming help needed

Hi Jac, I will try this. But it would be ok, even if I missed getting the actual character. I originally wanted it to get any key on the TTY to pause a loop running and ctrl-c ($03) to break. But if I missed the actual key code then there would be no way to tell one function from another. So in this...

KIM-1 programming help needed

Hi, I need a little help from the KIM-1 experts here: The following routine is the GETCH routine from the KIM-1 ROM. It waits for a character coming over the serial line and returns it in A. 725 1E5A 86 FD GETCH STX TMPX SAVE X REG 1E5A 726 1E5C A2 08 LDX #$08 SET UP 8-BIT COUNT 727 1E5E A9 01 LDA #...

Micro-KIM EPROM expansion?

Hi, 6 KB of the 8 KB EPROM is unused as the (Micro-) KIM has only a 2 KB ROM. I wonder if it is possible to either map the remaining 6 KB somewhere into the available address space (possibly behind 0xa000 to not have a conflict with the 32 KB expansion board) or is there an EPROM expansion board ava...

Re: Howto run KB9 Basic V 3.0 on Micro-KIM

Hi, warming up an obviously old thread... :) I can' get the modified versions 2 and 3 to work. I also can't use Hans Otten's kimpaper because I'm mostly on a Mac (sometimes Linux) and don't have Windows/DOS available. Also, I don't want to install some emulation software just for this purpose. So I ...

Re: Happy new Micro-KIM

Hi, good news! I found three 2764 EPROMs in my stock by accident, though I wasn't actually looking for them anymore, now that I have ordered a new pile. :) So I checked one of them with my C64 and after it turned out to be completely empty, I loaded the KIM ROM.BIN into the C64's RAM (thank god ther...
