Re: 5V input header on boad?

If I read that last post right, that 5V header can be used to power an external device, if the pocketterm itself is being powered with ~8V at the normal power input. Is that correct? If so, what kind of draw can one expect to be able to pull at 5v from that header? I'm curious if it could power a pi...

Re: Terminal emulation questions

Awesome, thanks for the update. It's good to at least know the limitations; I thought the issue might be with my setup. I look forward to any PocketTerm updates that may come in the future, especially since they come at a price of the time and effort of those who keep these kinds of hobbies going. T...

Re: Terminal emulation questions

Update: using "lynx" doesn't work properly no matter what I do. However, the "links" text-based browser seems to work really well. Set your tty to 36 rows with "stty rows 36" first and then just run links with default options. I don't know if there are any tricks to mak...

Re: Terminal emulation questions

I can't get mine to draw properly. I've tried vt52,vt100,vt102,vt220, and ansi terminals. I've tried 9600, 19200, and 38400 for baud rates. It "works" but lynx and other programs that use vt commands to move the cursor don't work properly at all. Lynx redraws links whenever you arrow aroun...

Re: Keyboard stopped working, any hints?

Ok, I feel a little stupid... it's been a while since I've fired this up, and I forgot that you have to hold CTRL and press the function keys to change settings on the PockeTerm. Everything seems to be working fine with the keyboard now. Thanks!

Keyboard stopped working, any hints?

My keyboard input stopped working, tried with multiple PS/2 keyboards. Any hints on where I could begin testing to find out what might be wrong? Thanks.

Re: Terminal emulation questions

Interestingly, "links" with my agetty set to vt102, and stty set to 36 rows, seems to work well. I can navigate without drawing errors, and the browser is quite usable.

Re: Terminal emulation questions

Also, the pocketterm is failing "vttest" pretty badly. Is this normal?

Re: Terminal emulation questions

Just to add, "vi" and "top" also seem to have issues with drawing properly. Top is usable, vi is not really very usable. What am I doing wrong?

Re: What are your use cases for the Pocketterm

I've used mine with the MAX232 chip removed, to connect to 3v TTL serial headers, on routers and other devices, for programming purposes. You can do this with a PC and the appropriate cable, but it was fun to do it with the PocketTerm. Mostly, I enjoy having a bit of nostalgia around, with a text te...

Terminal emulation questions

I've got my PocketTerm talking to my linux machine's serial console.... but they're not playing 100% nice together. I've tried forcing TERM to vt100, vt102, and vt220, but to no avail. Specifically, certain console applications don't want to use more than 24 rows (midnight commander, lynx). On top o...

Re: Pocket-Term with 3.3v TTL serial devices

Bumping a year-old thread here... just wanted to report that this works perfectly. For clarity I would add that the instructions to solder on the right-hand side of the resistor above the 3-pin transistor are assuming you're holding the board with the silk-screening readable and in the correct orien...

Pocket-Term with 3.3v TTL serial devices

The Pocket Term appears to use a max232 chip to get the voltages right for normal PC operation. My question is this- can this be bypassed to use the Pocket-Term with 3.3v TTL serial devices (such as many DDWRT capable routers with internal serial consoles)? Can anyone point me in the right direction...
