Re: IMSAI

Hi sje, Regarding your points made on your last post, I read the IMSAI.net website description differently. The 8051 derivative is not the the "CPU" but it is present to drive the front panel LEDs, read the switches & interface the front panel to a PC motherboard if present (via USB). ...

Re: IMSAI

Hi Vince, This is absolutely great. I built an IMSAI in 1977, it was the first kit that I ever built and was amazed that it worked first time. I sold it in the mid 80's and have regretted it ever since. I have built your micro Altair and your Micro Kim and know the quality products that you provide....

Re: CP/M USER MANUAL WANTED

Hi, Here is a web page that has many docs for CP/M in various formats. "www.cpm.z80.de/drilib.html" . By the way if you do a Google search on CP/M manual like I just did, this web site is the first hit received. Here is a direct link for a CP/M 2.2 manual http://www.cpm.z80.de/manuals/cpm2...

Re: VCF East May 5th and 6th

Hi Vince, I only saw Evan for about 5 minutes around 3pm Saturday as he was busy clearing the crowd for a large computer system that just showed up by truck (better late than never) . I had other plans for Sunday so I did not attend the VCF. Was the flyer in question just for Replica 1 kits or for d...

Re: VCF East May 5th and 6th

Hi Vince, I saw a Apple 1 display which was pretty crowded. They were running a contest with a Lunar Lander or similar game that seemed pretty popular. The board they were running it on was under plexiglass and said that it was hand built by ?? (the Cohens, possibly). It was possibly a Replica 1. I ...

Re: VCF East May 5th and 6th

Hi Vince, This was my first VCF and I found it very interesting. I purchased a minimalist computer kit from Herb Johnson, the COSMAC 1802 Membership Card designed by Lee Hart seen here http://www.retrotechnology.com/memship/mem_features.html . I bought a non working Commodore 64 for $10 for parts as...

Re: Another run of Disk RAM drive boards

The RAM drive went together nicely & worked first time after assembly. Following the tip on the troubleshooting forum, I installed a 10k pull-up resistor the on the Disk RAM chips' write enable pin before I installed it and have had no disk corruption issues on power off/on. Running CP/M 2.2, I'...

Re: 8800micro - 240 Volts

Please post power supply sources here to help other users out! Thanks everybody. Vince The one I used which fit the bill exactly came with a D-link DSS-5+ 5 port ethernet switch which was a spare unit. It was 7.5v at 1amp. If I find a inexpensive source for a similar PS, I will be sure to post it h...

Re: Another run of Disk RAM drive boards

Vince,
Great! (on the shipping progress for the RAM drive kits). I'm getting excited already! Thanks for all your efforts (and the other folks who helped out debugging & troubleshooting) in putting out a quality product.

Re: 8800micro - 240 Volts

Hi Neil, I am a happy Altair 8800 Micro customer, having built one last month with no problems. The power supply is not supplied with the kit. The power supply is provided by the kit builder and is the "wall wart" type (a small AC to DC "brick" with a coaxial plug). Here are the ...

Interfacing Questions

Hi Vince (& all), I was experimenting with designing a Programmed Output port like the Imsai 8080 has for the Altair 8800. I decoded the x"FF" address (using A8-A15) with an 8 input NAND gate, inverted that output, and ANDed that with the I/O signal & the inverted R/W signal to pro...

Re: Another run of Disk RAM drive boards

Hi Vince, Did anyone with the ram drive board install the fix you mentioned below and get back to you with the results? "My solution is not tested yet but maybe some of you soldering masters would like to give this a go. On pin 29 of the RAM chip below C6 capacitor, solder a resistor (3-10K ran...

Re: Questions on A9 Memory test

Hi, I was away for a 4 day weekend away from the Altair Micro so I couldn't try the A9 memory test until I got home this afternoon. I answered my own question on how it works from reading the previous posts & trying it out on the system. No need to reply as it was easy once I had the machine in ...
