Re: PDP-11 clone - laptop?

I had a Heathkit H-11 once. Maybe keeping it simple along those lines would make for an easier kit. I may even have the manuals and schematics somewhere.

Re: Altair 8800 Micro Project Status

It looks great! I can't wait! I'd better start looking for old Altair books and articles in preparation for its arrival.

I can't wait! I'm happy you were able to find toggle switches.

Will there be any I/O options or external s-100 bus expansion planned, or will I have to wait (or get another!) for a future version?

Will there be some sort of expansion connector (like on the Replica 1)?

o.k., maybe I got a little too excited when I saw the word "battery". :)

Sounds great. Who wouldn't love to be able to toggle in binary programs while riding the train to work!

This would be a great kit. I can already imagine some modifications and case designs.

I have always thought this is what the "IMSAI Series Two" should have been.
I have an old Altair backplane and a few cards. Maybe some enterprising people will find a way to interface old hardware.

A front panel for the Replica or the Kim would be great. I used one back in middle school (along with paper tape) on a PDP-8 clone.

Its time consuming, but there is something fun about toggling in a program and stepping through the program to debug.

Paper Tape

I saw this on e-bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Paper-Tape-Reader-for-IMSAI-SOL-20-or-S-100-Computer_W0QQitemZ150233600438QQihZ005QQcategoryZ4193QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It looks like a cool idea. I always liked paper tape, an would think such an interface would be a lot of fun for the Replica...

Thanks for running such a great workshop! I look forward more kits.

The next step is to mount it in a nice case.

Are there still spaces available? The link on the VCF site does not work for me.

When you mean "Beginner", are we talking about never having held a soldering iron? I have soldered wires and some components (guitars and amps), but I have only soldered to PCBs a few times. I'm always afraid I'll destroy a trace or leave too big a blob of solder. I don't even own a solder...
