Re: firmware version V52 now available

I noticed that with 5.2, and the prior versions too, something peculiar happens when I reach the last (bottom) line of the screen. I kept assuming this was a firmware bug that would be fixed, but now I'm wondering if in fact it's either normal behavior that everyone else already knows about. Or, ma...

Re: check sums for CP/M programs?

Is there a way to determine the address of the last "real" program byte For text files the Ctrl-Z character was the defacto end-of-file marker, but you could never rely on it to be there. For binary files there was nothing until CP/M 3. It has an enhanced BDOS function 30 (set file attrib...

Re: Feature request - Z80 emulation

I wouldn't say impossible, but it would almost certainly require a ground-up re-coding. Although the Z80 is (mostly) binary compatible with the 8080A, they are very different CPUs under the hood. Given the resources available with the 16Mhz. ATMega 8515 MCU used by the 8800micro, IMO it would be a s...

Re: Front Panel Stitch/LED I/O

The 8800micro front panel uses only port 255d as input for the A15..A8 "sense" switches. If memory serves that was the only I/O port mapped to the front panel and various peripheral loaders would query this port for I/O options. Serial I/O is done through ports 16d and 17d, which were the ...

Re: Serial interface usage

It's not an ideal solution and I should probably use VDD on the main board - anyone (Vince?), is there any way to get at this easily?

Pin 12 of the Propeller chip on the main board is VDD and C11 is its decoupling cap.

Re: Serial interface usage

I'll be darned -- your serial I/O is working fine. I just dumped a listing from 4K and 8K BASIC and the high bit of keyword characters are set as you described -- 8K BASIC sets it on the first keyword character and 4K the last. I haven't ever combed an early MS BASIC disassembly, but I'd hazard a gu...

Re: Serial interface usage

To test the system, I've been typing simple BASIC programs. An oddity is that in listings of 4K BASIC programs, the top bit of the first letter of each keyword is set. E.g. PRINT "Hello" is translated to [0xD0]RINT "Hello" That is odd. Is this just with 4K BASIC, or do 8K and 16...

Re: configure the 8800micro for 80x25 text?

For demo'ing some CP/M stuff I would like to set it to display 80x25 chars, centered on the screen. Is there a chance to configure the 8800micro or its terminal portion for that? Sorry I didn't think of this sooner, but you could use VT100 ESC sequences to set up a 25 line scrolling region: ESCc - ...

Re: configure the 8800micro for 80x25 text?

The 8800micro VGA display is fixed at 80x40. CP/M itself is pretty much terminal agnostic, but 80 columns of text was pretty much assumed. CP/M 2.2 had no provisions for setting terminal dimensions that I know of, but In CP/M 3 you can use the DEVICE.COM utility to query/set console parameters: A:DE...

Re: RAM Drive Battery Recharging Question

The switch needs to be on for the batteries to charge and yes, NiMH or NiCd batteries are the ones to use just for that reason.

Re: VGA or composite. What do you guys use?

Does anybody know it there's a table with the correct escape sequences are for the newer 5.1 software The Altair Micro Addendum Page I found, mentions some changes and updates which do work, but doesn't mention anything about this. There are some 8800micro terminal specific ESC sequences, mostly to...

Re: Changing power-on num-lock status

I've bought a small PS/2 keyboard for my 8800micro which has a notebook style numeric keypad built into the normal alpha keyboard when num lock is set. At the moment the terminal defaults to num lock on, meaning I have to turn it off before I can use the keyboard. Is there a way to change the defau...

Re: CP/M Software

I ran up Wordstar 3.3 , and it ran ok. Formatting a bit wonky though since the Altair 8800 Micro seems to have a screen deeper than 25 rows. Can I change the screen to 25 rows? You can't change the AltairMicro terminal to 25 rows but you can use the WSCHANGE utility to modify the Wordstar terminal ...
