Altair 8800 Micro No. 315: It's Alive!

Postby swendelsdorf » Oct Sat 24, 2015 4:56 pm

S/N 0315 with RAM Drive is alive and working flawlessly. Both kits, while not trivial to assemble, went together well. The kits were mailed out within a week of ordering. The Altair 8800 kit was missing the three resistor packs, but an email to Vince Briel was responded to within 30 minutes, and replacements were sent the next day. A little paint on the case, and all is well.

Looks awesome! Like the Zork going on in the background! I have put in a strong session or two playing HHGTTG and also Planetfall on my machine.

How did you get HHGTG and Planetfall to run. Thanks for any help.

I have been lurking here for a while, but decided to register to answer your question, Tim.

There are two ways to get Planetfall or HHGTG to run - the simplest is to install Zork, and then rename the data file for the game you want to play to zork1.dat. You can then start zork1.com and it will read the data file for the new game. This works with most of the early Infocom games.

The second way is slightly more complicated and involves patching the executable to read an alternative data file.

I did a google search for CPM software and downloaded HHGTTG, Planetfall, Leather goddesses, etc.. for CP/M....
transferred the files to the SD card, used the tools to get them onto a blank disk image... if it helps i'm running CP/M v3.0

do you not have the games, or can you just not get them to run?
