Not sure yet, still working on the first batch. I'd say with the production delays of the panels, 2 months.

1 left on the first batch!

I think I'll wait for the VCF workshop in September. It's always more fun building with a bunch of other people.

The VCF workshop details are still ongoing but looks like we will have to do a mostly assembled class since the Altair8800 micro takes a while to build. I'll have to figure something out so the workshop build takes only 1 hour max.

I don't suppose you'd let people work on the kit and get as much done at VCF as possible and finish it at home? Is there any subset of the kit that can be assembled and tested independently? How about if you bring a front panel board already assembled and have workshop participants just assemble the main logic board? Couldn't that then be plugged into your working front panel to verify that it works? I did another VCF workshop once where a lot of the assembly had been done ahead of time and it was quite disappointing to not be able to build the entire kit myself.

Yes, that is one option. I'm probably going to give people the choice. Since it would take most of the day to build, I will leave the option open.

It looks great! I can't wait! I'd better start looking for old Altair books and articles in preparation for its arrival.

What's VCF in regard to the Mini Altair 8800?

The VCF is the Vintage Computer Festival. http://www.vintage.org/ I like to host workshop at their events where people can build my kits in a classroom setting. Lots of fun for everybody and a high success rate of completion. The issue with doing the Altair micro is the amount of time required for assembly is longer than can be done at the VCF, so it means incomplete kits walking out or I would have to bring in partially completed kits for the users to build.

If people have online resources for Altair books, articles and software, can they post them here? That would help everyone out.

I'll start:

Altair Documentation

Software:

Hello Vince,

I am trying to find a suitable PSU for my Altair 8800 Micro.

"The power supply will need to be 7-9 volt DC 2.1mm positive center."

I don't know how many amps will the unit require ?

Can you suggest any values please.

I live in England so will probably get one from http://www.maplin.co.uk

Thanks in advance
