Pictures of my build

Postby jac_goudsmit » Apr Sun 26, 2015 7:55 pm

I got my Superboard III for my birthday two weeks ago, and built it the weekend after. Some unexpected life events kept me from posting these pictures before, but here they are. Sorry for the quality, it was dark in the house so it was difficult to get the phone camera to focus.

NOTE: I'll make a separate post about how I mounted the space bar

This is how it started.

It's really a shame that some vias ended up so close to solder islands, for example the one just above the left side of R6. There's even a via between two pins of an IC somewhere. This makes it easy to accidentally create short circuits so if you're a beginner, I recommend NOT getting this kit until Vince can revise the PCB layout a little. As I write this, the current revision is Rev 3.

It is REDICULOUSLY important to make sure you push the keyboard switches all the way down. They're kinda snug (which is a good thing!) but if you don't push it all the way down before soldering, you will probably end up with keys that are just a little bit out of place.

The keyboard is absolutely gorgeous and feels great! Except for the space bar, but I'll get back to that.

It worked the first time I plugged it in! Now let's fix the spacebar, and then maybe I'll make some improvements to the firmware.
