Hi,
I'm wondering if there is any need for Peter Jennings' "Micro Chess".
It was THE sensation in those years. I would like to play it again - but I cannot find any working program. Does anybody here have it and want to share? Or is there any copyright which could inhibit this?
I have the program in form of a paper sheet and could type it into the micro-KIM and share it - if this is legal.
So - what do you think?

Well, it is out there. I have met Peter Jennings who wrote Microchess and he knows about the Micro-KIM. Here's a page to get you started:

This is his site and there is a page with the manuals and source code. I know there are more places that have it and I hope to make it available soon, I just haven't had time to ask Peter if it is ok.

You can find binary files of Micro Chess (and others) on this page: http://www.hansotten.com/indexkim.html

With kimpaper you should be able to convert these to papertape format for uploading through a serial connection.

Also, here's an interesting article about modifying Micro Chess to be more challenging (requires a memory upgrade): http://www.atarimagazines.com/computeii ... page19.php

Some of those enhancements are quite nice actually. I will have a look into adding them into the Replica-1 version I distribute with Krusader as well. (It already has a few other enhancements to do with the opening, display, and move reporting).

Yes, fellows, you pointed to the sources where I got my print-outs from.
It is a good idea to try "KIMpaper" to convert the program, because I can make a lot of mstakes when I try to type the program into the Micro-KIM.
Next week I'll have a few hours of time to solve the problem....

on this page http://sbc.rictor.org/downloads.html you can find a terminal based version of MicroChess with assembler source.

An alternative version is here: http://members.lycos.co.uk/leeedavison/6502/

It should be easy to modify it to use the Micro-KIM serial in/output. And also recreate the original source!
