8800micro - 240 Volts

Hi,

Was very happy to find the 8800 replica kit and I'm itching to order one!

Just wanted to double check, I'm in UK so wanted to make sure PSU will work on 240 V without need for Stepdown Transformer?

Not that's much of an issue if they don't, just checked the price on Amazon. Seems they have really come down in price since last time I checked!

Anyway, some amazing kits you have here, very cool!

Hi Neil,
I am a happy Altair 8800 Micro customer, having built one last month with no problems. The power supply is not supplied with the kit. The power supply is provided by the kit builder and is the "wall wart" type (a small AC to DC "brick" with a coaxial plug). Here are the requirements straight from the assembly/instruction manual:

" The power input connector is a 2.5mm connector that accepts DC positive center connector. We suggest using a 1A (1000mA) 7-9V DC regulated power supply. If you connect the system with an incorrect power supply that has the + on the external connection, there is circuit protection up to 1A."

I am using a 7.5v power supply at 1 amp (120v mains of course) I had in my spare parts pile. You might already have a 240v version in you spare parts pile (but then again, I'm a pack-rat).

I see the delivery time is 2-3 weeks... just enough time for me untangle my own spares pile!

The one I used which fit the bill exactly came with a D-link DSS-5+ 5 port ethernet switch which was a spare unit. It was 7.5v at 1amp. If I find a inexpensive source for a similar PS, I will be sure to post it here.

While Mouser doesn't have the part I ordered for use with the Altair and micro KIM, it does have a replacement (Input: 100-240VAC 50/60Hz, Output: 7.5VDC 1A, NEMA1-15) with a 2.1mm center positive connector.
