Reviving the SWTPc single board computer

Reviving the SWTPc single board computer

Postby vbriel » Aug Fri 01, 2014 7:14 pm

Now that the Superboard III is coming out, I will be reviving the SWTPcSBC. This will be a 6809 version of the SWTPc system by South West Technical Products corp. I will be revisiting the disk drive emulation process and going from there. I have more projects on the way but this is one I've wanted to get finished for a long time.

Yes too soon. While I have a prototype, it is not the final prototype and I still want to start from scratch on the disk drive emulation.

Could be fun, I have my Percom sbc/9 up and running again (thanks to a new memory card from Bob Applegate). I'm thinking of working on getting Nitros9 or Flex/9 running on it at some point (there is a serious lack of s/w available for Percom's mpx/9)

This sounds interesting.

Have you thought about using the Hitachi compatible 6809 (6309??) which can run at higher clock rates (up to 4MHZ, I think)?
I believe there are two modes of operation- one which is 100% compatible with the 6809, and another mode which takes advantage of a few additional
instructions which are not 6809 compatible.

NitrOS9 can boot from the 6309 in 6809 compatible mode, as well as with the enhanced instruction set.

Single board computer implies no SS-50 bus, I presume?

Just got back from the VCF Midwest 10 and saw the

It would be fun to find someone making replicas of that original SWTPc case,

I just noticed this. I would be very interested in this kit. I built one of the original 6800-based SWTPc computers and would love to recreate that experience. Please me put me down for a kit when you're ready to sell! Can't wait!!
