Re: Emulated video or exact design

Hey Jac, didn't you send me your Pet code? I got tied up with some personal stuff and have not been able to do much lately. I'm curious how you did the graphics characters as well as the standard characters. I ran into an issue where I could do 256 character set but then I also need inverse mode as...

Re: USB keyboards

If you can't find one anywhere else, you might try the PS/2 mini keyboard that Parallax sells. Go to parallax.com and search for item number 32351.

Many Propeller designs use the PS/2 keyboard so they're not likely to stop selling these anytime soon.

Re: Off topic but cool

That's an interesting project!

I found some more information in this guest post on DangerousProto: http://dangerousprototypes.com/forum/vi ... =56&t=4646

Re: K1000uC – A Hobby Project

Interesting project! Lots of interesting information and great pictures!

Have you considered putting a website online about it?

Re: Emulated video or exact design

I don't know what project you're working on, but I believe it should be possible to emulate the video of most early 1980s computers with a Propeller. Monochrome or color character mode is almost trivial. Graphics is more difficult but not impossible as long as the necessary memory stays below 32KB. ...

Re: Easy address decoding changes with the Micro-KIM?

If you remove the address memory jumper near the extension port, it disables the onboard address decoder. You can put an address decoder on an extension board that enables the on-board 6532 and ROM (not sure if extension boards can enable the RAM on the motherboard). Bottom line is: if you want to a...

Re: New to KIM: couple of questions

I don't know the details about the Farmer Brown program but if it uses the timer from the second RIOT to generate the animals at random, it's always going to get the same value unless you have the second 6532 expansion board installed. I've seen a working version on my MicroKim, though. I probably d...

Re: printer

I think when the old KIM-1 documentation refers to a printer, they mean a printer that's attached to the serial port, in other words the printer that's part of your serial terminal. In those days, terminals used paper for output, video terminals were much more expensive. I noticed in your videos (at...

Re: Cannot program Propeller

The baud rate doesn't matter: the Propeller tool sets its own baud rate and flow control. The fact that the screen goes blank is a good sign: looks like at least you're on the correct connector. Maybe you just need to cross TXD and RXD on your serial cable? (Also for the sake of others reading this)...

Re: POLL: Machined socket or Dual swipe

Now that I think about it, I may even consider selling a "super cheapskate I-can-solder-and-I-don't-need-no-steenking-warranty" version without any sockets: people who think they can solder the 74HC chips straight onto the board without zapping them, can do get that version and save money ...

Re: POLL: Machined socket or Dual swipe

Maybe you should give the buyers the option of buying either of the two? I just built the final prototype for my own project kit, using all new parts and milled sockets. I found out that because new chips always have their pins bent out so much, I was really scared to bend the pins and then push the...

Schematics

Vince,

Can you put the schematics for the Micro-Kim and the memory expansion board online in the original format (Eagle .sch/.brd file?), instead of bitmaps or PDF?

Thanks!

Another happy new owner!

I received my MicroKim kit in the mail two weeks ago while I was traveling, but yesterday I finally had a chance to put it together with my stepson who just turned 30 and recently got interested in computers. He had never soldered any electronics before so I did the transistors, displays and 7805 to...
