Notes on my Kim build

Postby hsnewman » Jan Sun 30, 2011 11:42 am

1) I had a hard time identifying some of the parts, it would be great to have them in labeled bags for the loose parts that are the same (ie: the .22uF caps and the other loose items).
2) The table shows 12 100OHM BROWN BLACK BROWN when there were actually only 7
3) The manual should separate the transistor installation, it really bit me:
The next components to install are the 9 transistors.
• Q1-Q7 are 4403’s
• Q8 & Q9 are 4401’s
(I read the first part and not the second, the transistors all look the same without a magnifying glass. I would recommend:
Install the 4403 transistors in Q1-Q7
Install the 4401 transistors in Q8-Q9.
4) The board should be better marked for the 1uf vs the many .1uf's since it's hard to distinguish them.

Finally, I noticed there is an address in the manual which probably needs changing.

Hi hsnewman,
Iam not completely of your opinion.
Yes, I had the same problem with the wrong number of delivered resistors as you had. As an experienced hobbyist I always have got a good stock of components at home, so it was no problem for me.
You really often need a magnifier if you are building kits to have a look to the solder joints, the conducting paths or just to see what is written on the components. As an older hobbyist, my arms are not always long enough for reading those small letters :D .
The quality of the kits is very high - especially of the boards, most I have seen are much worse - and I also was very surprised about the very good
packing of the components.
Don't be too hard with Vince, for me - I'm glad to have got such a good kit at cost price...

Cheers

I wasn't being hard on Vince, I was trying to ensure help in the quality!
