Found my blue paint can...

Postby Corey986 » Nov Tue 13, 2012 10:24 am

OK I was looking for something else and found the can I though I threw out.

The paint color is Rustoleum Professional Safety Blue #7524. This is a bit darker than the real Altair, but looks great with the black panel. If you really want the exact color of the Altair I have that paint mix, I had computer color matched metal compatible touchup paint made at a local paint shop. Just message me and I'll dig it up.

Cheers,
Corey

Thanks for the tip. I used this paint last weekend and it came out great.

Not only is it a really great color for this, but it's also really nice paint.

I highly recomend the paint job to anyone that owns a micro. It looks so awesome with the new front panel.

Pictures? You know, I would have painted the cases but it just involves another step in the process to delay shipping :) The Altair micro's have much more to put together in a kit then my other kits, painting would have just set things back more. Plus I don't have a proper facility to paint a bunch of cases. If anybody decides to paint the case and messes up, replacement cases are about $12 from Jameco. I'd like to see the painted case with the new front panel!

Here are some pics. The rainbow cable you see just extends the bus out the back.

By the way, for those wanting a new front panel, you don't need one. The new front panel is simply not painted at the bottom. I'll bet you can mask off and strip the paint at the very bottom. Obviously a risk, but for those with some skill this would have the same look as the new panel minus the decal.

Did you use Vince's custom paint recipe or the Rustoleum Professional Safety Blue #7524?

This is Safety Blue #7524, which I was able to get at Home Depot. I didn't even know Vince had a special recipe!
